RIYADH, 14 October 2006 — It’s been weeks since a Saudi man in the town of Rijal Al-Mae discovered that he couldn’t renew the registration for his vehicle. After authorities discovered that another person had the same registration number, the man has been in limbo, unable to renew his registration and also unable to get a new, unique number plate. According to a report in Al-Madinah newspaper yesterday, the man has had to go to the local registration office every week to obtain a new temporary vehicle registration, and he is unsure when he will emerge from this slightly Kafkaesque situation.
