KUWAIT, 16 October 2006 — The Ministry of Information has refused to allow a number of Arab women singers to perform during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday here. Male singers, however, will be allowed to perform, according to Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Sources also stated that the ministry had refused to issue licenses for event organizers who had planned to stage concerts for women singers such as Nancy Ajram, Alissa, Diana Haddad and Amal Hijazi. According to sources, the main reason for the refusal of licenses is due to problems with costumes during their performances. The ministry’s decision applies only to non-Gulf women singers but not to male singers.
A number of male singers, local and from other countries, have already scheduled concerts and will be performing during the Eid Al-Fitr holidays: Nabeel Shuael, Fadel Shaker, Baha’a Sultan, Bashar Al-Shatti and Miami Group.
