Jeddah Water & Power Forum Opens Today

JEDDAH, 11 November 2006 — National and international experts will be brought to one platform at the 2nd Jeddah Water & Power Forum 2006, which begins today at Hilton Hotel in Jeddah. The forum is being held with the support of the Makkah Governorate and the Ministry of Water and Electricity (MOWE).

An exhibition that runs as part of the forum will open at 7.30 p.m. The official opening of the forum will follow at 8.30 p.m., Forum President and Chairman and CEO of the Bushnak Group Dr. Adil Bushnak told Arab News yesterday. “About 500 delegates are taking part in the forum,” he added.

The event begins with a pre-forum seminar on “International Partnerships, Local Content and Sustainability” at 9 a.m. today.

Tomorrow, there will be sessions held on the privatization and regulation of the water and power sectors, the major Jeddah water and power projects, public private partnerships and financing options, and new and innovative water and power technologies.

On Monday, there will be a plenary session followed by sessions on the Saudi water sector — opportunities emanating from the national water strategy, and interaction, optimization and sustainability of water, power, and oil and gas production. On Tuesday, the event will feature post-forum technical workshops.

Experts speaking at various sessions include Minister of Water and Electricity Abdullah Al-Hussayen, Dr. Bushnak, Governor of the Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority Dr. Fareed Zedan, SWCC Governor Fehied Al-Shareef, SAGIA Director General for Energy Sector Dr. Abdul Wahab A. Al-Saadoun, Water & Electricity Company’s Omar Al-Ghamdi, Citigroup’s Mark Aplin, and Deputy Minister for Planning and Development at the Ministry of Water & Electricity Loay Al-Musallam.

Those chairing various sessions include Dr. Mohammed A. Al-Sheikh, SWCC’s Deputy Governor for Planning and Development Dr. Abdullah Abdulaziz Al-Alsheikh, Gulf One Investment Bank CEO Dr. Nahed Taher, Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Jeddah Marketing Board Chairman Saleh Ali Al-Turki and Dr. Saleh Al-Awaji, deputy minister for electricity at the Ministry of Water and Electricity.
