JEDDAH, 15 November 2006 — The first-ever Jeddah Rally Cross 2006 starts today on the dirt track of Jeddah Raceway. The two-day rally organized by the Jeddah 4X4 will be managed by Walid Mahyar, who had managed many international rallies including Qatar Rally, Jordan Rally and the recently concluded Hail 2006 Rally.
Saudi rally champions such as Prince Abdulaziz ibn Turki, Prince Khalid ibn Sultan Al-Faisal, Ahmed Al-Sabban, Farouk Ghurab, Majid Al-Ghamdi, Abdullah Al-Marri, Issa Al-Dossari, Amr Shass, Bandar Al-Solami and others, will participate for the first time in this event in Group N . Group S will be devoted for continuous 4X4 drive sedan vehicles.
The championship is under the direct supervision of the Saudi Committee for Motor and Motorbikes Sport at the General Presidency of Youth Welfare.
Mishael ibn Abdel Mohsen Al-Sulaiman, vice chairman of the board of directors and executive director of United Racing Co., said hosting this event comes in the framework of developing and containing all types and categories of motor and motorbikes sports in one national Motoplex, based on the specifications and standards imposed by the FIA and under the direct supervision of the Presidency of Youth Welfare to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety. Ayman Akram, executive president of Jeddah 4X4 Club, pointed out the championship is the first to be held on the dirt track of Jeddah Raceway aimed at developing 4X4 motor sport in the area. He added that the United Racing Company, owner of Jeddah Raceway, and Jeddah 4X4 Club are lining up many similar activities next year.
