DUBAI, 20 November 2006 — The director general of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Butti Ahmed, launched the Value Added Tax (VAT) study project at an official meeting with customs executives including group members and representatives from the consultancy firm tasked with VAT study. Butti affirmed that study aims to identify the likely political and economic effects resulting from VAT implementation, take the appropriate measures to prevent any price increase and seek to make it approximating the current customs duty rates without creating any further burdens to the business or consumers community.
Dubai to Host Education Exhibition
DUBAI, 20 November 2006 — Fifteen accredited universities are taking part in the 3rd Malaysia Education Exhibition which begins in Dubai on Nov. 22, 2006. The two-day exhibition being held at the Trade Center of Malaysian Consulate in Dubai would highlight the opportunities for higher education in Malaysia that could be availed of by the students of higher secondary schools in the UAE. Shushilil Azam Bin Shuib the Director of Malaysian Education Promotion Center said the Malaysia Education Center in Dubai was willing to offer all guidance to students and educational institutions in the UAE.
EFT Awards Contract for High-Tech Parking
SHARJAH, 20 November 2006 — Emirates Financial Towers (EFT) yesterday announced that they have awarded Robotic Systems the rights to develop a high-tech parking facility that will be one of the first of its kind within the Middle East. This system is planned to contain 1,200 fully automated parking spaces. Designed by US firm Robotic Parking Systems, patrons of the EFT will have at their service a technological marvel that takes the problem of parking out of their hands and into the hands of computers. “With this technology, an individual will not need to drive through the garage to find a parking space. He can drive the car into one of the multiple entry exit stations and leave it to be picked up by the computerized machines (Robots) that will park it inside the building on a shelving system” explained Hani Abu Auida, EFT chief executive officer.
New Infiniti 2007 Models Launched
DUBAI, 20 November 2006 — Arabian Automobiles recently launched three new Infiniti 2007 models: The FX crossover, the all new G Sedan and the M. The launch was attended by senior Infiniti executives from Japan and VIPs. “In 2006, we expect the Infiniti sales in UAE to be about 2200 units, a growth of 37 percent over 2005. Maintaining this trend puts us on course to achieve our target of being the Number One Japanese luxury brand within three years,” said General Manager Michel I. Ayat. He said Arabian Automobiles is building a dedicated Infiniti showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road as well as exclusive service centers. The whole project is due to be operational by end of 2008.
