ISLAMABAD, 22 November 2006 — The United States will provide Pakistan with high frequency communication and radio systems to fight terrorism.
Officials here confirmed yesterday that Pentagon has cleared the deal worth $160 million under which Islamabad will procure high frequency communication and radio systems.
The Bush administration will now seek congressional approval which is likely to be given in view of Pakistan’s urgent needs to track down terrorists. Pakistan had made a request for a possible sale of Harris high frequency radio system and other logistic services including ancillary equipment.
The high frequency radios will enable the country to improve its capability to provide current and updated intelligence between border patrol and higher headquarters.
The Pentagon has cleared the deal saying it would increase cooperation between Pakistan and the US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan fighting insurgents in that country.
