ISLAMABAD, 28 November 2006 — Sharja’s business tycoon Abdul Rehman Bukhatir, the founder of the Sharjah Cricket tournaments and head of various multibillion-dollar industries, will launch his $2 billion “Sports City,” in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, next Saturday.
Amin Mullah, a senior diplomat from the United Arab Emirates, said, “Spadework on the proposed project is already finished by Abdul Rehman Bukhatir’s companies with the assistance of the government of Punjab. A formal ceremony will be held in Lahore and will be jointly attended by Abdul Rehman Bukhatir and Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi to lay the foundation stone for the project.”
A major chunk of land has provided for the project by the chief minister of Punjab, he said. “The sports city will comprise of modern day cricket, football and hockey stadiums... the designing of a new golf course is also the part of the project which has been approved by the federal and Punjab’s provincial governments.”
Pakistan’s Minister of State for Investment and Special Initiatives Omar Ghuman told Arab News, “Mr. Bukhatir has also expressed his willingness to make investments in the real estate sector.”
