DAMMAM, 1 December 2006 — The Saudi Company for Amusement Centers (SCAC) and the Kuwait Commercial Markets Complex (KCMC) signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding to set up a SR100 million company to promote tourism service in the Eastern Province.
Abdul Mohsen Rashid Al-Rashid, chairman of the board of directors of the SCAC and Tawfik Ahmad Al-Jarah chairman of the board of directors and the CEO of KCMC said the MoU stipulated the collaboration between the two companies in establishing a new company to undertake tourism resorts, amusement centers and food services in the Eastern Province.
They will set up a model tourism city comprising commercial complexes with indoor and outdoor restaurants, and shopping and play regions, in addition to sports corners, racing car circuits, trekking areas, hotels and apartments, practice centers, clinics, medical stores.
It will also have exhibitions and festival halls and grounds. It will also build amusement and tourist resorts serving visitors to Half Moon Beach.
The tourism promotion strategy of the Eastern Province aims at promoting maximum tourism potential in the region, which has been divided to three regions for the purpose. They are Dammam where there are already several tourist projects running, Jubail and Ahsa where the industry is in a developing stage and Al-Uqayar and Rub Al-Khali where tourism is yet to be developed.
