Saudi Spikers Eye Fourth Win Against Indians: Asiad

DOHA, 4 December 2006 — Saudi Arabia will have another busy day during the third day of competitions in the 15th Asian Games. The volleyball team hope to keep their immaculate record when they play India today in the men’s preliminary pool A match at the Al-Rayyan Indoor Hall here.

Riding the momentum of three straight victories over Macau, Kuwait and UAE the Saudi spikers are expected to put on another strong performance in the 8 p.m. match against the Indians. After this match they take on Lebanon in the final preliminary match on Thursday.

The judokas hope to bounce back from their first day losses when Naif Mazyo, 20, face Chi Yip Cheung from Hong Kong in the -73kg round of 32 contest at Qatar Sports Club Indoor Hall. His teammate Abdulrahman Al-Hazmi, 20, meets Alisher Mantobetov from Kazakhstan in the -66kg round of 32 match.

The handball team hope to follow up their first day victory against UAE when they battle Japan at 6 p.m. in the preliminary league Group C game.

The Saudi swimmers seeing action today at the Hamad Aquatic Center are captain Ahmed Al-Kudmani and Yousef Al-Yousef, 18, in the men’s 100m breaststroke heats.

Weightlifter Faisal Al-Salmi, 21, will compete in the men’s 77kg Group B, at Al-Dana Banquet Hall.

In shooting, Khalid Al-Zamily, 37, will participate in men’s 50m rifle prone qualification at the Lusail Shooting Range.

In boxing, Ahmed Al-Ahmary, 20, will compete in the light fly 48Kg preliminary against Ramos Issac from East Timor 2:15 p.m. at Aspire Hall. Ahmed Aseeri and Nezar Aseeri, 29, will start their campaign in snooker round of 32 match against Bahrain at the Al-Sadd Qatari Club. Up next for the bowlers will be the men’s doubles final at 9 a.m. at the Qatar Bowling Center.
