JOLO ISLAND, 5 December 2006 — The United States yesterday rewarded two Muslim families whose sons had discovered an improvised explosive device on a road in the southern island of Jolo where Filipino and American troops returning from a humanitarian mission were to pass.
Philippine military chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon accompanied US Ambassador Kristie Kenney and US Pacific Command chief Admiral William Fallon, who gave the families Php 80,000 in an awarding ceremony in the village of Tagbak, Indanan town.
