JEDDAH, 8 December 2006 — The latest products in information technology and communications industry will be showcased at Commtel 2006, Saudi Arabia’s 21st IT international exhibition.
The five-day event at the Jeddah International Exhibition and Convention Center starting Dec. 11 received the strong support of Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal ibn Majed and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
A series of symposia on a range of subjects will be held alongside the exhibition from Tuesday to Thursday. Saudi Telecom Company (STC), the event sponsor, will discuss its various services to include land, mobile and Internet facilities. Mobily will organize its symposium Wednesday on 3G, 3.5G, and other value-added services.
Commtel aims to provide the opportunity not only to see the latest technology but interact with experts and compare prices and specifications across a wide spectrum of products and services, Al Harithy Company for Exhibitions Ltd. (ACE), organizer of the event, said yesterday.
“Commtel is the Kingdom’s longest running and most comprehensive showcase for the IT and communications industries,” Zahoor Siddique, exhibitions director at ACE, said.
“The show assumes importance against the background that IT has proven to be a vital area for the sustained growth of the Kingdom’s nonoil sector. Increased use of the Internet, mobile phones and e-commerce has enhanced this potential considerably,” he added.
Arabian Business Machines (Toshiba), Al-Maktaba, Casio, Canon, JVC, Al-Haddad (Nokia), LG, Mobily, Panasonic, Bravo, Saudi Telecom (STC), Supertech TV, i2, Zoofitech and several other companies as well as their local agents and distributors will display their products and services at the exhibition.
Commtel’s inaugural ceremony is slated at 12 noon Monday.
