DOHA, 14 December 2006 — Saudi Arabia wrap up their Asian Games campaign today with a bronze medal game in men’s volleyball and the equestrian endurance race.
After missing a spot in the final, the Saudi spikers go for the bronze in the 6 p.m. match against Qatar at the Al-Rayyan Indoor Hall.
Qatar lost their semifinal match last night against Korea, three sets to one.
The Saudis, the surprise package in the tournament, extended the Chinese to five sets before going down in defeat, their first in seven matches. The individual and team competition in the endurance race starts 6 a.m. at the Mesaleed endurance course. There will be 51 individual and 8 team entries in the final event of equestrian where the Kingdom won the team show jumping gold medal on Monday.
To carry the Kingdom colors in the endurance race are Prince Fahd ibn Abdullah Al-Saud, Prince Saud ibn Khaled Al-Saud, Homoud Al-Shammari, Nawaf Al-Otaibi, and Abdulhafedh Al-Turkumani. A sixth rider, Taher Al-Turkumani, was not allowed to start in today’s two-phase race after his horse was found physically unfit.
