JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — Police have intensified their search for a 37-year-old Indonesian housewife who eloped with her lover, an Indonesian plumber, a few days ago, according to Al-Madinah newspaper.
The woman took with her jewelry that her husband had given her and the couple’s young child. The couple had been married for eight years.
According to sources quoted by Al-Madinah, the woman disappeared together with the child around 2 a.m.
The woman arrived in the Kingdom a few years ago to work as a maid for a doctor but ended up getting married to a 53-year-old man, the paper said.
Recently, the woman met a relative of her husband’s, who convinced her to elope with him. Discovering that his wife had left him, the man contacted the police and accused her of kidnapping the couple’s child and stealing his jewelry.
“Al-Safa police is taking this case seriously. The station chief hastily circulated a note detailing the description of the woman and child together with photographs of them,” the husband’s legal representative said.
The case has also been reported to the Jeddah Passport Office, which has issued orders to prevent the woman from leaving the Kingdom.
