JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — A delegation from the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry yesterday to encourage Saudi investment in Kosovo.
The delegation had visited the Madinah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will also be heading to Riyadh to sign a similar agreement with the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and encourage it to have an office representation in Kosovo.
“Our visit to Saudi Arabia is first to thank the Saudi leadership for their support to Kosovo during the war and afterwards,” Safet Gerxhaliu, director of the Office for International Economic Affairs, told Arab News after signing the agreement yesterday at JCCI. “We want to raise Saudi interest in Kosovo and then move toward establishing investments,” Gerxhaliu added.
As a first step, Mazin Batarji, deputy chairman of JCCI, announced that a Saudi business delegation would be visiting Kosovo soon to explore investment opportunities and in turn welcomed foreign investments in Saudi Arabia.
Gerxhaliu presented some of the main areas of investment such as food production, tourism industry and education sector. With the support and economic cooperation of different countries, Kosovo hopes to recover its economy.
He pointed to the advantages of Kosovo in terms of location, natural resources and young skilled population. “We have 58000 small ad medium enterprises, more than 63 percent of it is in services.
