Ahli Spikers Head to Tunisia

JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — Al-Ahli volleyball team are to leave for Tunisia on Thursday for the 25th Arab Volleyball Championship for clubs to be held from Feb. 17. A total of 18 clubs from 11 countries namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Libya, Sudan, Palestine, Iraq, Bahrain, Jordan and Tunisia are seeing action. The teams would be divided into four groups. Meanwhile, the technical executive office at the Arab Volleyball Federation will hold a meeting to discuss the federation activities and programs.

Sport Channel to Air Athletics

JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — The third Saudi Sport Channel will start airing the Saudi Athletic Leagues in 2007 beginning with the super league to be held in Qatif tomorrow and Thursday. Saudi Athletics Federation member Khalid Al-Dilak said he hopes the channel face no difficulties in covering the events.

Qadisiya Judokas Top Al-Nokhba Tilt

JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — Al-Qadisiya judokas dominated the two-day Kingdom Al-Nokhba League for clubs for first division team in Riyadh. The championship held at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium attracted 60 players from eight clubs namely Al-Shabab, Al-Waseel, Sadous, Al-Tai, Al-Ittihad, Al-Wehda, Heraa and Qadisiya. Qadisiya brought home three gold, three silver and three bronze medals in the team and individual events while Al-Taie took two gold, one silver and four bronze medals for second place. Sharing third place were Al-Ittihad, with two gold, one silver and one bronze medals, and Sadous, with one gold, four silver and one bronze medals. The winners in various weight categories were: 60kg Ali Minyawi (Ittihad) 66kg Mohammed Mubarki (Qadisiya), 73kg Firas Al-Shangiti (Qadisiya), 81kg Imad Al-Doussari (Sadous), 90kg Turki Munir (Taie), 100kg Muslih Al-Subai (Ittihad), 100+kg Mohammed Al-Qurashi (Wehda), and open weight category Turki Munir (Taie).

Ahli Academy, Future Sport Sign Contract

JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — The Ahli Club Academy has signed a contract with Future Sport Academy Company to operate and manage the academy. Under the contract, the company will operate the club from the technical and administration aspects. The company is the same company that designed the academy buildings and football field. The company also hired qualified administrators and trainers for the academy. Future Sport Academy Company is the first company that specializes in establishing and managing sport academies.

Ittihad Cagers Rule First Round

JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — Al-Ittihad topped the first round of the Al-Jawal Basketball Super League for clubs. They have 18 points and undefeated in nine matches. In second place are Al-Ansar with 17 points, Al-Ahli and Ohud are joint third with 15 followed Al-Hilal 14 , Al-Qadisiya 13, Al-Nahdha 12 , Al-Wehdah 12 , Al-Masirah 10 and Al-Nasr 9 points. The league resumes on Thursday Feb. 22. Meanwhile, the under 23 tournament resumes this Thursday. Wihda meet Ansar in Makkah, Oud meet Hilal in Madinah in Group A matches, while from Ahli meet Ittihad in Jeddah and Qadisiyameet Nasr in Dammam in Group B hostilities. Ansar lead Group A with 12 points and Ahli are on top of Group B with 13 points.

Gulf Cup for Clubs

JEDDAH, 13 February 2007 — The final match between Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittifaq and Al-Qadisiya of Kuwait in the 22nd Gulf Cup for Clubs football tournament will be opened free to the public. The match will be played on Feb. 20 in Dammam at Prince Mohammed ibn Fahd Stadium. The free admission to the match was given the go signal by General Presidency of Youth Welfare and Saudi Football Federation President Prince Sultan ibn Fahd on the request of Ittifaq club chairman Abdulaziz Al-Doussar.
