JEDDAH, 22 February 2007 — Today the Masters Academy for Fencing and Martial Arts hands out awards to the fencers who participated at the second Fencing Open Championship, which was held from Feb. 19 to 22 at the Professional building on Prince Sultan ibn Salman Street north of Jeddah International Convention Center.
The first Saudi fencer and president of the Saudi Fencing Federation Prince Homoud ibn Soud ibn Abdulaziz will attend the awards ceremony today while Ayman known as Chuck Albritton, executive consultant and facilitator will present a speech for the audience in English. The event is open to everyone specially families whose presence in last year’s event had been very encouraging for the young fencers, according to Omar Abu Rumayah, coach of the team at the academy.
The foil competition took place on Monday, sabre on Tuesday and epee on Wednesday.
Finals in all events, however, are to be played today with three cups on offer for best players at each event, and a cup for best player, cup for the youngest player and award certificates.
The players participating are: Ali Agel, Egyptian national team player, veteran Saudi national team players Riyadh Al-Rifaai, Abdulrahman Daghistani and Abdullah Daghistani. In addition, the academy athletes who are also entered in the competition are Muhanad Al-Khuraiji, Sultan Al-Sahli, Sani Madani, Rayyan Rajab, Asaad Khalaf, Mahdi Al-Anaf, Mohammed Ashram, Rayyan Al-Madani, Ibrahim Gari, Amro Taha, Mohammed Taha, Mansour Sukari, Nawwaf Al-Ghaithi, Ahmed Al-Awad, Yassir Batterji, Ammar Batterji, Sami Bakhsh and Ammar Faidah.
The academy organizes a number of events during the year and offers courses for children and athletes interested in developing their skills in fencing. Their latest course was an introductory to fencing and a fencing course for people aged 25 dubbed “Fencing For Fun.”
