RIYADH, 23 February 2007 — In a move to boost its presence in the Saudi market, Samsung Electronics announced the names of its new strategic partners here Wednesday night. Kwang Hak-koh, Samsung’s general manager for digital information technology division, said “the new partners have new visions and strengths to work with a giant company like Samsung to offer the best products and services to the people here.”
Addressing a press conference, Koh said that “we are now aiming to rejuvenate the IT industry as part of new vision and hence we have entered into business alliances with major players like Redington Gulf, Techdata, Al-Masa Distribution, Metra Saudi and MTC.”
Koh said “we would like to renew our commitment to see that GCC countries are way ahead of their neighbors in terms of the accessibility of the best and the newest brands. As IT continues to affect daily lives of local consumers throughout the Kingdom, Samsung will continue to strive for more IT convergence technology that will help the people in their daily lives.”
He pointed out that “the new technology from Samsung is cheap and affordable and the Gulf region, which has seen enormous growth in the last 10 years, is really a prime location in our business plan.”
“The Kingdom has invested heavily in the IT sector and has also continued to deal well with new IT capabilities, while striving to liberalize the market,” Koh said, while referring to the new technologies, which will generate enormous revenues for local entrepreneurs as well.
“Samsung intends to maintain this success and the reputation of being the world’s most outstanding brand by continuing to release more products that cater to the local market,” Koh further said.
Samsung, which has its presence in the Saudi market for the last several years, is recognized as one of the fastest growing global brands, much ahead of its competitors. It is currently the leading producer of digital TVs, memory chips, mobile phones LCDs and a range of other products. Anupam Birla, Dubai-based Samsung’s sales & marketing manager, made a presentation with a focus on the dramatic growth of Samsung, saying that this giant Korean company had emerged as a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies with its sales exceeding $56 billion globally. It currently employs over 128,000 people in 51 countries.
The press briefing was also attended by Noor Mohammed Arshi, Samsung’s country manager for Saudi operation (digital information technology division) and Raj Samuel, another Samsung executive.
