MANAMA, 23 February 2007 — Bahraini banking authorities reassured the public yesterday after the recent discovery of forged bank notes in circulation.
The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) confirmed reports in local press that forged BD20 ($53), had been discovered in the system, but said that it conducts stringent, daily checks of Bahraini currency, to ensure the authenticity of money in circulation.
“The CBB would like to take this opportunity to assure the public and the financial markets that there is no cause for concern,” a CBB statement said.
“The incident is a very minor one and only a very limited number of counterfeit notes have been detected and confiscated.” The CBB also said that they along with all banks and money changers in Bahrain carried stringent checks of Bahraini currency on daily basis, utilizing high quality checking machines.
