ABHA, 7 March 2007 — An event to honor the Saudi vocalist Abubaker Salem will take place at the Egyptian Opera House in Cairo next month. Salem is expected to sing a couple of songs from his latest album “Ahtafil bil-Juruh”, which was produced by Rotana, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday.

Recently, all of his poems, which he sung over the past 42 years, were published in a recent book called “A Poet Before Being a Singer.”

Salem is known for his sweet voice and classical Arabic style of singing. He has been honored with several national and regional awards including an honorary doctorate from Hadramout University in Yemen.
