JEDDAH, 10 March 2007 — Al-Nasr beat Al-Qadisiya 2-1 in Riyadh and Al-Ahli won 3-2 in a goal-scoring marathon with underdogs Al-Taie in a pair of Saudi Football League matches last night.
Qadisiya opened their account in the 24th minute after Nasr defender Masmoso allowed an easy ball to Qadisiya midfielder Mohammed Madihi who then outmaneuvered Masmosso and executed a perfect strike in the net. Nasr played a better game in the second half but their finish was poor. In the second half Nasr managed to score the equalizer through Diaa Haroon via a penalty kick in the 52nd minute after Nasr forward Abdulrahman Al-Bishi was taken down in the penalty box.
Al-Qadisiya matched up better against Nasr in the second half but failed to cash in on their chances. Abdulrahman Al-Bishi eluded his defenders to slam home the winning goal for Nasr in the 88th minute.
Taie grabbed an early goal against Al-Ahli in the 12th minute after they were rewarded a controversial penalty that critics said was not justified. Ahli’s golden boy Malki Muath equalized in the 32nd minute after strong shot from Haykal deflected off the goalkeeper’s hand. Malik Muath returned the favor to Hakal Qumamdia after he was taken down just outside the box. Qummamdia’s free shot landed on target giving Ahli a 2-1 lead
Taie made it 2-2 following a lapse in defense by Ahli in the 71st minute.
Ahli veteran Hussain Abdulghani had the last say in the match when he pulled in the winning goal in the 84th minute from a free kick.
