Kingdom Cyclists Continue Medal Hunt in Abha

JEDDAH, 12 March 2007 — Saudi Arabia continued their medal hunt in the 8th Men’s and 9th Youth Gulf Cycling Championships in Abha, winning a silver and a bronze medal yesterday.

The seven-day event continues up to Friday.

On Saturday, the Saudi cyclists won team gold medal in the men’s 65-kilometer race against the clock courtesy of Mohammed Al-Abdullah, Salman Al-Shareet, Moussa Al-Shabeeb and Nassir Al-Barahim. In a photo finish the winning quartet, silver medalists Bahrain and bronze medal winners UAE third had identical clockings of 1:22.01.

The Saudis’ silver medal yesterday came in the youth 68-km men’s team trial event with a time of 01:35.41 by the quartet of Bader Al-Yassin, Ahmed Aseeri, Fahad Khabrani and Sultan Aseeri. UAE took the gold medal in the event and Qatar the bronze.

The gold medal in the youth 36-km time trial yesterday went to UAE in 55:35.02, the silver to Bahrain in 56:02.59 and the bronze medal to the host nation in 01:00.59 on the efforts of Abdulatif Al-Inizi, Mohammed Aseeri, Ahmed Al-Shahrani and Adel Al-Marhoun.
