Road Runners Against Smoking

JEDDAH, 14 March 2007 — Over 5,000 runners, including celebrity footballers, will participate in a marathon at Jeddah Corniche tomorrow afternoon as part of the third anti-smoking campaign of the Makkah region.

Entitled “Together Against Smoking, Together to Support Cancer Patients,” the event has been organized by Al-Eman Association for Cancer Patients.

According to Ahmad Al-Hamdan, deputy president of the Higher Committee of the Anti-Smoking Campaign, individuals from all government sectors, students and members of the public will be participating in the event.

Al-Hamdan urged students, tobacco suppliers and local and expatriate residents to participate in the campaign by visiting the Al-Eman Association at their premises on Al-Andalus Street behind the Samba Bank in Al-Ruwais district. Al-Eman can also be contacted on 02-6511373.

Fahd Al-Sulaimani, general supervisor of the marathon, said a number of Saudi marathon champions including Hadi Sau’an, Hasan Asiri, Salem Musa’ad, Hamdan Al-Bishi and Ahmad Asiri will be participating in the event.

He added that 15 referees under the supervision of the Presidency of Youth Welfare will be judging the event. A number of Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad players will take part in the marathon, he said.
