Taif University Student Distributes Fake Memo

TAIF, 19 March 2007 — A student who was angry at the administration of Taif University, decided to distribute a fake memo among students saying that they should gather in front of the dean’s office to get their monthly stipend, which was delayed by many months, the daily Okaz reported yesterday. The word spread quickly and by late afternoon, over 200 students had gathered outside of the dean’s office, eagerly waiting his arrival so they could collect their checks. The dean, however dashed their hopes and told the students that memo was not sent out by the university and their checks were not yet ready.

Smokers Revolt Against Anti-Smoking Campaign

ABHA, 19 March 2007 — Smoke lovers launched a war against an anti-smoking campaign at King Khaled University here, the daily Okaz reported yesterday. The anti-smoking campaigners were distributing flyers around campus to increase awareness among students of the dangers of smoking. Meanwhile, a large group of smokers, started distributing free packs of cigarettes to students covered flyers and posters with logos of cigarettes. University officials, embarrassed over the incident, vowed to punish the culprits.

Skeleton Scare Tactics: A New Trend

ABHA, 19 March 2007 — It is a new trend that is spreading in the south. Young Saudi’s driving pickup trucks, hang human skeletons in the back of their trucks as a sign of strength. “It is meant to show other drivers that they are not scared of anything. I find it appalling and disrespectful to the dead. Local authorities need to interfere and put a stop to this madness,” said a concerned citizen.
