JEDDAH, 20 March 2007 — Arrangements have been made to celebrate Pakistan Day in the Kingdom on March 23 in a befitting manner.
A number of functions have been planned to mark the occasion. A function will be held at the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh at 9:30 a.m. on March 23 where Ambassador retired Adm. Shahid Karimullah will hoist the national flag.
Messages from the president and the prime minister will be read out on the occasion. The embassy and the consulate general in Jeddah, meanwhile, will remain closed on Saturday, March 24.
The Pakistan International School (English Section), Jeddah, has also announced plans to celebrate the day. A cultural evening will be held on March 22 at 8:30 p.m. at the school’s auditorium, said Saher Kamran, the school’s director finance and administration.
Consul General Masood Akhtar will be the chief guest while Azad Iqbal, the grandson of poet Allama Iqbal, will recite Iqbal’s poetry. The school has also planned special programs for its students and staff on March 24, in which the consul general and his wife will be the chief guests.
Meanwhile, a flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at the PISJ-ES at 9 a.m. on March 23, said an official of the consulate.
Consul General Akhtar will unfurl the national flag. Entry will be allowed from Gate No. 3. Free transport will be provided from Pakistan International School, Aziziyah and the consulate general from 7.30 a.m. to 8.15 a.m.
