RIYADH, 21 March 2007 — The International Indian School Riyadh (IISR) has asked local police to crack down on the negligence of drivers after a ninth grade honor student was run over and killed after being dropped off by a van driver on the side of the road opposite the school. Manzar Jamal Siddiqui, principal, IISR, told Arab News that he would be writing to the traffic control department in the context of the tragic death of Maaz, who was dropped on the road by a private van driver (and not by his father as reported yesterday) instead of being dropped off in front of the school, which would have prevented the youngster from crossing a busy street. The Saudi man responsible for the accident is now in police custody.
