RIYADH, 21 March 2007 — Motorola, which has 40 percent Saudi staff, is to employ Saudi women as part of the Saudization program of the Kingdom, Dr. Walid Romman, country manager of Motorola in the Kingdom, said yesterday.
At a press conference held at the Faisaliah Hotel, in which the company
outlined its strategy and “seamless mobility” vision for Saudi Arabia in 2007, he noted that earlier this month, Motorola hired a female Saudi national to join the company’s Networks and Enterprise team. “The new female employee, the first in the history of Motorola Saudi Arabia, will provide sales support in the eastern province,” he said.
He further said that “currently more than 40 percent of Motorola’s staff in our six offices across the Kingdom are Saudi nationals, making the company a leading global employer of local talent,” adding that Motorola participates annually in the King Fahd University career fair, primarily to recruit more Saudi graduates in the technical and engineering sector.
“Motorola’s key objectives for 2007 include increasing our market reach in the Kingdom both through growing our staff and our distribution channel, continuing to develop the skills base of Saudi nationals, offering our latest Networks and Enterprise solutions and services to the public and private sector organizations, and launching a comprehensive range of new mobile handsets and headsets,” Romman said.
It included a reinforced commitment to Saudization efforts, provision of the latest infrastructure solutions and services to support operators in meeting customers’ growing demand for data connectivity, and the delivery of compelling mobile experiences through a new portfolio of devices.
Describing the Kingdom as a huge market for mobile phone, Romman said that last year there was a growth of 34 percent and this year it would increase to 42 percent.”
There are nearly 18 million mobile phone users in the Kingdom and it would go up with the introduction of the third mobile network in the Kingdom, he pointed out.
The new Motomobile portfolio for 2007 will include the MOTOSLVR(tm) L9, a bestselling form factor in Saudi Arabia, with powerful multimedia punch, and the stylish clamshell Motorola W510, offering the best in design and value with uncompromised functionality.
Saudi music lovers will appreciate the new MOTORIZR Z6, a multimedia masterpiece with the latest music features and a powerful digital imaging platform, he added. “And for wireless connectivity and music streaming, Motorola is introducing the Bluetooth Stereo Active Headphones S9, which deliver a true hands-free music experience for consumers.”
