JEDDAH, 28 March 2007 — To get workers physically fit and in shape, the Makkah Water Company recently held a series of tournaments as part of its annual “Sportsfest” program.
Sportsfest started last year with table tennis and badminton tournaments and a tug-of-war contest.
The Makkah Water Company promised to continue its activities and in February another sportsfest that contained the above tournaments was held, the finals of which were held on Friday.
The finals of the Safa Sportsfest began at around 5 p.m. at the Safa Indoor Sports Hall. The contest started under the leadership of Plant Manager Magdy Osman, who was assisted by Claro Mangubat, Radnie Bentaib and P. M. Basheer.
The tournament started with a welcome speech delivered by Dr. Mohammad Abu Rayan, quality control manager, and an inaugural speech delivered by Administrative Manager Abdullah Abu Hadi.
Prizes were distributed by Abdul Rahman Ali ibn Zomah and a vote of thanks was delivered Ganesh Nambiar. The evening’s closing ceremony was presided over by General Manager Ali Saad ibn Zomah, who also promised to continue support the sportsfest in future. A feast was also arranged after the event for Makkah Water Company employees and their families.
The winners of the tournaments and games are as follows:
Badminton (Doubles): Sujjad-Zubair champions; Mushtaq-Maksood runner-ups. Badminton (Singles): Zubair-champion; Hamoodi Qassim-runner-up. Table Tennis A: Radnie Bentaib-champion; Claro Mangubat-runner-up. Table Tennis B (Beginners): Ahmad Samadi-champion; Hamoodi Qassim-runner-up.
Tug-of-War: Navas Team of Injection Moulding Section- winners; Saleem Team of Maintenance Filling Section-runner-up.
