Sharjah Biennial Art Festival Begins

SHARJAH, 5 April 2007 — Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi, member of Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah officially inaugurated yesterday the Sharjah Biennial 8 (SB8), the largest art event in the Arab world. The festival’s theme this year addresses the theme of art as a way of creating a better understanding about our relationship with nature and the environment while considering its social, political, cultural and subjective dimensions in an interdisciplinary way. SB8 will focus on the renewed role of art in addressing a wide range of issues that alarmingly affect human existence on earth. The biennial’s program includes exhibitions, performances, a film program and a symposium.
