DAMMAM, 13 April 2007 — The International Indian School, Dammam (IISD) has formally begun celebrations commemorating its silver jubilee with the release of the jubilee logo by Chairman of the School’s Managing Committee Dr. Mumtaz Ali Khan.
Principal E.K. Mohammed Shaffe briefed the gathering on programs for the yearlong celebrations, which will begin with a funfair on April 26.
“Revenue from the fair will be utilized for the improvement and development of infrastructure and other amenities of the Special Child Care Section,” the principal said.
The silver jubilee programs include an educational exhibition next month in the girls’ section, a weeklong India Week festival in November, literary competitions, seminars, inter-school debates and sports and cultural events.
A steering committee with Dr. Mumtaz Ali Khan as patron, Abdulla Manjeri as convener and Mohammed Rafi, John Thomas, Azeem Wars, G. Tewari, Dr. Anvar Batcha, Nazeer Maniyarnkulam, Dhanalaxmi Ramanujam, Mariyu Sageer, Tasnim Muneer Ahmed, Padmaja Chandran, Najma Nakhat and Mehnaz Farid as members has been formed for the successful organization of the silver jubilee activities.
The SCCS provides equal educational opportunities to children with physical or mental handicaps of various degrees. Shaffe said the school has instituted a welfare fund to support and provide fee concessions to needy children, and urged individuals and companies to support the fund.
“About 600 children have benefited from this fund,” the principal said. “Apart from this fund, a few parents and teachers have directly remitted fees to clear the dues of defaulted children to the tune of SR50,000 to help them continue their studies,” he added.
