RIYADH, 6 May 2007 — Hospital authorities are seeking public support in order to establish the identity of a patient who lost his memory following an assault.
According to sources at King Khaled Hospital in Al-Kharj, the patient was admitted two months ago in a state of unconsciousness with severe injuries to his right leg and thighs. The authorities who admitted the patient said that he had been severely beaten and was found lying on the road. Following recovery from his wounds, he is partially paralyzed on his right side and has completely lost his memory.
“The patient does not know his identity and neither can he speak nor write,” said a nurse at the hospital. She explained that when a pen was given to him, he scribbled something which no one could decipher.
The nurse said she had seen two persons, possibly from the Indian subcontinent, coming to the hospital to see the patient but that they had suddenly disappeared when hospital authorities sought their assistance to identify the patient.
The Indian nurses at the hospital informed Keli, a South Indian social service organization in Al-Kharj, about the patient and now the members of this service-oriented organization are trying to establish the man’s identity.
“It would be a great help if someone could identify this person,” said Rajan Narodhe, president of Keli in Al-Kharj. He said that the patient seems to understand Hindi since he observed that the patient pays attention when someone speaks Hindi.
“We have displayed his picture in five prominent places in the area and we have not received any response from the public for the past seven days,” he explained.
Readers who recognize the patient or who have any relevant information should contact the hospital on 01-5441260 or inform Rajan of Keli on 0563485852.
