Indonesian Maid Commits Suicide

BAHA, 10 May 2007 — An Indonesian maid in Baljurashi committed suicide while her employer and his wife were at work. The maid’s sponsor, who had returned home to collect some papers, discovered the maid hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling. The couple’s daughter, who was with the maid at the time, was found unharmed. According to press reports, the maid had started work three months ago and was unhappy with her job. Medical and police examinations confirmed that the woman had committed suicide.

Drug Dealer Held at Checkpoint

DAMMAM, 10 May 2007 — Authorities arrested a man who was in possession of 300 rolled-up cigarettes containing hashish when he stopped at a checkpoint in the Al-Eskan district of Dammam. Police officers noticed that the man was in a state of confusion when he arrived at the checkpoint. After searching his car, they found the hashish roll-ups and arrested him immediately, local media reported.

Mentally Ill Man Imprisons Family

HAFR AL-BATIN, 10 May 2007 — A mentally ill man in his 50s imprisoned his family at their home in Hafr Al-Batin threatening to stab them if they made an attempt to escape, press reports said yesterday. Police, having been unsuccessful in negotiating with the man, stormed the house and in the ensuing struggle one officer was stabbed in the back. He was taken to hospital and said to be in stable condition. None of the hostages were harmed. The man has been arrested and taken to a psychiatric hospital, police said.
