CAIRO, 27 May 2007 — Adel Imam’s latest film, “Morgan Ahmad Morgan” has run into serious legal hurdles as a rather less known writer, Tamir Abdul Hameed, has brought a lawsuit for five million Egyptian pounds against the production company Good News Cinema, according to Bahraini daily Akhbar Al-Khaleej yesterday.

Hameed claims that he wrote the story of the film under the title “Baba fi Bakalurius.” The lawsuit contends that Hameed learned about the theft of his story when he read in local newspapers about the launch of the project last week under the name of storywriter Yusuf Muatee. Tamir claims he received the approval of the censor’s office for his story in 2004 while Muatee reportedly, received the approval in 2006 for his story.

The story of the film revolves around a corrupt businessman who turns to a politician with the aim of getting official protection for his dubious pursuits. After enjoying power and money for several years, the character Morgan realizes that he could buy anything except instant knowledge and decides to go to college at the age of 50.
