JEDDAH, 27 May 2007 — Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, president of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare, inaugurated the new International Bowling Center in Riyadh on Friday. To coincide with the soft opening of the state-of-the-art bowling facility is the staging of the 1st Kingdom Open Bowling Championship from May 25 to June 8. Seeing action are 180 bowlers from the US, Europe, Australia, Asia and host Saudi Arabia. Meantime, the Saudi national team members are expected to be back from Bahrain where they participated in the Kingdom of Bahrain International Championship, which ended yesterday at the 18-lane Fun Land Bowling Center in Manama. Hassan Al-Shaikh rolled his fourth perfect 300 game during the competition on Thursday. Bahraini Hussain Ghaloum and Naif Iqab of UAE also scored 300.
Hilal Lift Athletics Federation Cup
JEDDAH — Al-Hilal won the Saudi Athletics Federation Cup on Thursday at the King Abdul Aziz Stadium in Makkah after collecting 405 points from the past three championships. Second place went to Al-Safa with 384,5 points and third to Al-Ahli (306), fourth to Damk (286), fifth to Najran (205), sixth to Al-Jubail (198), seventh to Al-Ittihad (191), eighth to Al-Khaleej (188), ninth to Al-Watani (94), 10th to Al-Rawdah (91), 11th to Okaz (86), and 12th to Al-Nakheel (31). New talents were discovered during the meet, among them, Al-Zaki who clocked the fastest time of 13.99 seconds in winning the 110m hurdles. The Youth Welfare Center director in Makkah, Abdulaziz Al-Masoud, attended the final day and handed out awards to the athletes.
AFC Draws
JEDDAH, 27 May 2007 — The draws for the AFC Champions League 2007 and AFC Cup 2007 knockout stages as well as the AFC Final Round for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will take place on June 13, at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur.
According to the AFC official website, the draw ceremony will kick off with the AFC Final Round for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games at 1400 hours, followed by the AFC Cup draw at 1500 hours and then the AFC Champions League draw at 1530 hours. While the line-up for the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup has been completed, six teams have already qualified for the AFC Final Round for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and six more will complete the line-up on June 6, 2007, which is the stage two final group qualifying day.
