CAIRO, 28 May 2007 — Saudi actress Amal Hussein has seemingly been successful in her bid to make her presence felt on the Egyptian stage despite the stiff competition from both Lebanese and Syrian actresses, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday. Amal is scheduled to appear with Egyptian actor, Omar Sharif, in “Musafir” written and directed by Ahmad Maher. She will play the role of a nurse caring for a sick Omar.

Amal is currently appearing in the comedy serial “Rajul Ghani Faqir Giddan,” written and directed by Muhammad Sobhi, as one of the character’s four wives. Sobhi is the main character in the film in which he has other three wives of Russian, Italian and Japanese nationalities. The cast includes Ezzat Abu Awf and Wafa Sadiq.

Amal, who became popular in the Kingdom and the rest of the Arab world with her role in Tash Ma Tash, has worked so far in 39 Saudi serials. Her notable films include “Khat Al-Bidaya,” “Hikaya Ala Judran,” “Amal Wa Alam,” and “Akhwat Musa.”

Amal said she hopes that Saudi viewers will encourage her in her new films so that she can get greater opportunities to serve the Arab stage.
