RIYADH, 4 June 2007 — A four-day conference on Information Technology and National Security will be held here from Nov. 3-6 as part of the Kingdom’s drive against terrorism via the Internet and other security issues.

Prince Muqrin ibn Abdul Aziz, chief of intelligence and chairman of the organizing committee, announced in a statement issued yesterday that the conference would also see the inauguration of its headquarters by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, under whose patronage the conference is being held.

One of the goals of the conference, said Prince Muqrin, was to “encourage researchers in modern technology to use it in such a way as to serve national security in a comprehensive manner.”

He said some 1,000 delegates, including IT experts from the Kingdom and abroad, were expected to attend the conference at the King Fahd Cultural Center. An exhibition on electronic and IT security will also be organized on the sidelines of the conference.

Explaining the aims and objectives of the conference, Prince Muqrin pointed out that it was part of the presidency’s initiative to forge direct contact with researchers and persons specialized in modern technology and to examine the role of information technology in combating terror via the Internet.

The organizing committee has invited contributions from researchers interested in making a presentation at the conference.

The deadline for submitting abstracts is June 16 and for research papers Aug. 28. They will be notified of their papers’ acceptance by Sept. 13. The research papers should be either in Arabic or English.

The announcement said if the presentation involves one or more persons only one of them would be allowed to participate in the conference. The author of the paper should submit a one-page summary along with a 200-to-400 word abstract.

Enquiries should be addressed to the Academic Committee of the Information Technology and National Security Conference: P.O. Box 6830, Riyadh 11452. The phone number is +966-1-246-0013; Fax: +966-1-246-4713; E-mail: [email protected]. Details of the conference are available on www.itns.org.sa.
