Real-Time View Into Net’s Health
How healthy is the Internet? Take a look by using Akamai Technologies’ new tools that provide a view into the real-time well-being of the Internet. Visit www.akamai.com/visualize to view how the Internet is performing at this moment. Offering three modes of visualizing the Internet in real-time, the Real-Time Web Monitor identifies the global regions with the greatest attack traffic, cities with the slowest web connections (latency), and geographic areas with the most web traffic (traffic density).
“It’s easy to take for granted that the Internet will always be on, and always working,” said Tom Leighton, co-founder and chief scientist of Akamai. “Reality shows us that there are many factors, on any given day, degrading the Internet’s performance. Some are malicious, and some are the result of the incredible amount of content being requested at any one time.”

New System to Learn Surgery
Immersion Medical’s LaparoscopyVR Surgical Simulation System is the first laparoscopy surgical simulator designed as a complete system. The LapVR System, including hardware and software designed by Immersion Medical (www.immersion.com), comes in a self-contained cart and provides an effective and convenient tool to assist in training students on minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures.
Simulation training is now an essential component of the education curriculum in many training centers and augments direct instruction from the attending physician. The simulation system includes unique exercises for developing camera navigation, cutting, clipping, adhesiolysis and hand transfer skills. There is also a module providing a simulated environment for removal of the gall bladder.
