JEDDAH, 19 June 2007 — A Bangladeshi worker suspected of stealing a full oil truck from his employer was captured by the Passport Department after the employer reported the theft, Jeddah Passport Department authorities said yesterday, adding that they found the man in a detention center for illegal residents who are in queue to be deported.

Authorities didn’t say what happened to the truck or if it was found or if the suspect is thought to have sold the vehicle for money before turning himself in for deportation.

Authorities did release the name of the suspect: Koken Jalal Hamid. Authorities said the man confessed to his crime and blamed it on psychological problems related to being homesick and missing his wife.

In another incident, passport authorities are searching for another Bangladeshi worker suspected of stealing his employer’s luxury car and SR100,000.

The employer says he entrusted the man with the money and the vehicle in order to make a deposit in a local bank in Jeddah.

Passport officials have distributed a flier among its detention centers in case the worker tries to flee the country by turning himself in as an illegal resident for deportation.
