JEDDAH, 27 June 2007 — A ‘Snickers Street Skillz’ tournament is being held here from July 4 to 6.
Street Skillz is a 3-on-3 caged football event and is the only game of its kind in the region,” Ahmed Saab, of Snickers told the media yesterday. The action kicks off at Heraa International Mall on July 4 and continues over the weekend with a final on the evening of July 6.
Street Skillz was launched in 2006 with tournaments in Jeddah and Riyadh, but due to high demand from youths across the region, has now been rolled out across four cities. This year’s tournament kicked off at the beginning of May with an action-packed weekend of matches in Sharjah, followed by Doha at the beginning of June and in Riyadh for two days last weekend.
Winners from the previous tournaments are now set to battle it out with the Jeddah champions in the highly anticipated final. The overall winners will walk away with a SR7,000 grand prize with SR5,000 going to those in second place and SR3,000 to those in third place.
Snickers is all about grassroots sport, encouraging ordinary guys to get involved with football and show off their skills. Thousands of young footballers took part across the Kingdom last year and the tournaments this year have proved to be a huge success so we are looking forward to a great final in Jeddah,” Saab said.
Snickers Street Skillz is part of a long-term campaign to support and encourage young people to become active members of the community through sport, particularly football,” he added.
