JEDDAH, 3 July 2007 — Microsoft’s latest operating system, the Windows Vista, will be introduced for the first time to participants in the long-running computer literacy program for Filipinos in Jeddah, organizers said yesterday.

The forthcoming seminar series, the 21st to be organized by the Overseas Filipino Workers’ Cooperative Council (OFWCC) and slated to start on Friday, will be the longest at eight Friday sessions.

“This seminar series is open to both the beginners and those who wish to upgrade their computer literacy,” said Ernie Geslani, one of the council’s lecturers.

The workshops are to be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lecture Hall of Tropicana Restaurant along Thalia St. in Jeddah. The schedule is as follows:

• July 6 — Introduction to Computers & MS Windows Vista

• July 13 — MS Office 2007 — Word 2007

• July 20 — MS Excel 2007

• July 27 — MS Powerpoint 2007

• Aug. 3 — MS Access 2007

• Aug. 10 — Adobe Photoshop CS2

• Aug. 17 — Basic Computer Networking

• Aug. 24 — PC Assembly

Geslani said participants do not have to attend all the sessions. For instance, one who already knows Vista, MS Word and Excel may skip these sessions and wait for the other sessions.

But he said those who wish to take up Basic Computer Networking and PC Assembly have to take up Session 1, or Introduction to Computers and Windows Vista, to have a better understanding of what they are going to do.

Fred Castolome, the OFWCC’s incumbent chairman, said interested participants are encouraged to make reservations to give the secretariat enough time to prepare the required facilities and paraphernalia.

For reservation, the following officers may be contacted: Atoy Esguerra, 05563-73126; Rudy Carillo, 05024-43161; or Fred Castolome, 05083-41366.

Founded in 1996, the OFWCC is accredited by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in the Philippines to promote, organize and support cooperatives among Filipinos in the western region of the Kingdom.
