DUBAI, 4 July 2007 — Police recently arrested three men, who would raid bachelor accommodations in the city impersonating as police officers and then rob Asian laborers.

According to an official from the Criminal Investigative Department (CID), the modus operandi of the criminals was to barge into bachelor accommodations and threaten the occupants with arrest. They would then pretend to search the premises, and take money and mobile phones from the victims.

According to the CID, when some of the victims realized that they were being robbed, the criminals would threaten them brandishing knives. One of the three men would dress up in a police uniform while the other two would claim they were plainclothes officers. The CID has not released further details about the men’s nationalities apart from saying they are Gulf nationals.

After receiving complaints from the victims, the CID formed a team to hunt the gang down. A few days ago, they received a tip-off from one of their sources about one of the criminals. After checking their database they found that the suspect had a lengthy criminal record. The man was arrested close to his house in the Al-Qouz area. The suspect and his accomplice were driving a four-wheel vehicle. After searching the vehicle, the police found a knife used by the men.
