JEDDAH, 6 July 2007 — The Department of Preventive Medicine at the Ministry of Health starting Sunday is holding a two-month awareness campaign at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport for people traveling abroad during the summer.
“The campaign aims to raise awareness among youths traveling abroad about sexually transmitted diseases and their dangers,” said Deputy Minister of Health for Contagious Diseases Dr. Khalid Al-Zahrani.
“Summer time is the time for traveling abroad and it is our duty to meet our youth and explain to them how they can prevent themselves from catching sexually transmitted diseases especially AIDS, so that our country can stay free of those diseases,” he said.
The campaign includes the distribution of brochures with advice and instructions. Information will also be included in Saudia Airlines’ inflight magazine “Ahlan Wa Sahlan.”
Minister of Health Dr. Hamad Al-Manie, Abdullah Ruhaimi, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, and Khaled Al-Mulhim, director general of Saudia Airlines, will launch the campaign at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Golden Hall of the international flights’ terminal in Jeddah.
