DUBAI, 12 July 2007 — Top ministry and civic body officials seized a huge amount of caviar from an illegal firm in Ajman in a raid yesterday.

“The firm, which was importing and trading caviar without necessary permit issued by the concerned authority, is currently facing legal action,” police sources disclosed.

Caviar is the egg of sturgeons, a group of fish declared as endangered by Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).

During the raid, officials from the Ministry of Environment and Water and Ajman Municipality found that the firm was processing and trading in caviar, in breach of the federal law for regulating and controlling species listed in the Appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
