JEDDAH, 12 July 2007 — The new BMW 5 Series, unveiled here yesterday, highlights its aesthetic quality with new interior designs and “highest levels” of comfort and luxury.

The launch coincides with BMW Group’s new sales record in June when over 150,000 automobiles were delivered, marking a 15 percent increase over the same month last year. For the six months to June, the group delivered a total of 730,285 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles worldwide, compared to 698,482 vehicles over the same period last year.

The group, which largely represents the luxury segment of the car market, has also claimed a steady increase in sales across Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Gulf. This was substantiated by two senior executives of Mohammed Yousuf Naghi Motors (MYNM), exclusive dealer of BMW vehicles in the Kingdom, at the BMW 5 Series launch press conference.

“The new BMW 5 Series is in keeping with the commitment of MYNM to provide the highest quality products and services,” MYNM General Manager Mousa Al-Aruri, told a press conference. “The new BMW 5 Series has been updated and developed substantially, helping enhancement of the external appearance and highlighting the car’s aesthetic quality by applying new innovative interior designs and ensuring the highest levels of comfort and luxury,” he added.

“The new car has received styling upgrades, reaffirming our commitment to providing the highest quality services and products. Our aim is to provide a unique experience, starting from buying a BMW car to all subsequent after-sales services. The launch of the new enhanced BMW 5 Series confirms this vehicle’s immense success in the Saudi market, achieving high sales volumes since its initial launch in 2004,” said Al-Aruri who was accompanied by MYNM’s Regional Manager Kamal Momina.

The BMW 5 Series retains its six- and eight-cylinder range of engines and features additional improvements to the body styling, including a redesigned front fascia and new all white headlights and rear lights. It redefines interior luxury with the addition of new materials including pearl color chrome, premium upholstery, superior hand rests, two-color interior for doors and new key knobs for some of the equipment plus a new design of the gear knob.

Two engines are on offer for the new BMW 5 Series — the six-cylinder engine, peaking at an astonishing 282bhp, and the eight-cylinder, 362bhp power unit. All models come with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, with an available Sport option. Rear wheel drive also comes standard, while the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system is also available on select models.

The BMW 523 is equipped with a 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 2.5-liter engine that produces 190 hp and 235 N/m of torque at 3,500rpm. The BMW 525 is powered with 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 3.0-liter engine that produces 218 hp and 270 Nm at 2,400rpm.
