JEDDAH, 15 July 2007 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah yesterday urged all ministries and government departments to achieve excellence in telecommunications and information technology.
The king made this comment while receiving the 12th Middle East Award for Excellence in Telecommunication and Information Technology won by the Court of the Presidency for Cabinet Affairs.
“We hope all ministries and government agencies will appoint national cadre well-trained in telecommunication and information technology,” the king said.
King Abdullah commended the court’s officials for the victory and urged them to continue their efforts to make more achievements.
Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Fahd, head of the court, said his department had set up an advanced computer system to register and follow up all activities and papers and another system to follow up services being rendered to citizens and residents.
He said the new automatic systems had increased the productivity of the court’s staff. “It is worth mentioning that the computer and follow-up systems have been prepared and implemented by Saudis,” the court’s chief said.
Crown Prince Sultan also received the prize in a separate ceremony.
Also yesterday, King Abdullah received messages from Sultan Qaboos of Oman and Mauritanian President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi.
