A Mouse That Works Anywhere
The Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse is a laser mouse that doesn’t need to be held against a flat surface or tethered to a cable in order to control a PC. For many, the computer is now much more than a productivity tool. It serves as a hub for digital media, demanding a new way for people to control, consume and enjoy music, photos and videos on the PC. To enable effortless in-air navigation, the new mouse combines three important technologies — Freespace motion-control, gesture command and wireless — so people can point, select and play media files with just a flick of the wrist.
The MX Air can be held by the user in any orientation, pointed in any direction and still effortless, intuitive cursor control is achieved. The mouse incorporates gesture-based commands. For example, to change the volume, the user would press and hold the volume button and simply gesture — to the right to increase volume or to the left to decrease it. The MX Air mouse has a range of up to 10 meters. The device becomes available in August at a price of $150.
Domestic Violence Awareness Program
MommyTalk.com, a free, international social networking website for parents, will bring domestic violence to the forefront this month through the site’s “Seeing, Sharing, Supporting” awareness program. According to www.endabuse.org, at least one in every three women around the world will be abused during her lifetime.
“This is a serious topic, and we hope that our members can share stories with each other to help bring the issue to the table,” said Travis Moss, CEO and president of MommyTalk.com. “The experts that will share this month on the site will be able to provide some amazing insight into all forms of domestic violence.”
Saudi Labor Law in English
In September 2005 the Saudi government introduced a new Labor Law. While the legislation covers both men and women, national and expatriate workers in the Kingdom, few foreign workers have read the law because the text is in Arabic. Now, the Ministry of Labor has posted a 120 page English translation of the Labor Law at its website. Download the document from http://www.mol.gov.sa/mol_site/labor_law.pdf. It should be noted that the ministry is providing the English translation of the Labor Law for guidance only. The Arabic text would govern in any legal action.
Palm’s Mobile Companion Product
The Palm Foleo is Palm’s first smartphone companion product. The Foleo mobile companion has a large screen and full-size keyboard with which to view and edit e-mail and office documents residing on a smartphone. Edits made on Foleo automatically are reflected on its paired smartphone and vice versa. Foleo and its paired smartphone stay synchronized through Bluetooth throughout the day or at the touch of a button.
The Foleo mobile companion turns on and off instantly and features fast navigation and a battery that lasts up to five hours of use. Foleo mobile companions work with Palm’s Treo smartphones and Palm believes that most smartphones based on Windows Mobile should work with little or no modification. Smartphones based on other operating systems likely can be supported with a modest software effort.
The Foleo has a USB port, video-out port, headphone jack and slots for SD and compact flash cards for memory expansion. US availability for the Palm Foleo mobile companion will begin this summer at $600.
