RIYADH, 18 July 2007 - Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Foundation, donated $1 million to the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM).
The IIUM was established in 1983 when the university received its 'Establishment order' after an exchange of diplomatic notes of co-sponsorship between the government of Malaysia and a number of Muslim governments including Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Libya, Maldives, Pakistan, Turkey and the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
IIUM offers courses in the various disciplines of engineering, architecture, information technology, biological and chemical sciences, and economics and management sciences. While the university was established on Islamic principles, it admits non-Muslim students as well. There are about18,000 students from over 90 countries at IIUM.
