A young man took his old mother to hospital wanting to consult an ophthalmologist. The one they met turned out to be a university teacher. The mother had cataracts in her eyes and as a result was suffering from blurred vision.
The doctor scolded the young man and said that ignoring his mother’s condition could lead to loss of her sight.
However, he informed them of the good news that she would regain her sight and gave them an appointment at his private clinic in the evening, promising to help the mother regain her vision.
At the same time, he also gave them another appointment (five months later) at the public hospital, which provides free medical treatment.
The young man tried arranging an earlier appointment at the public hospital. However, the doctor was adamant. He said that there were so many patients and there was nothing he could do. So the old lady naively inquired how could he be so busy when he was giving them an appointment the same day in the evening at his private clinic. She then added, “Do you have time to treat one eye after two months from today?” The answer was no.

A father of nine daughters celebrated his one and only son becoming a doctor after so many years of poverty. He sold his dagger to buy some sheep for the celebration. While gathered around the feast, everyone present began crying for various reasons. Some were crying because the boy’s mother had passed away a year earlier and had not lived to see the day.
Others were shedding tears of joy that the son had become a doctor and that his sisters were now optimistic at seeing improvement in their lives. There was so much meat, that the family divided uncooked meat into 10 portions to be cooked each Friday for ten weeks.
After dinner, the father said to his son, “I want you to get married now.” The son began crying again. Looking at his poor sisters’ faces, he picked up a copy of the Qur’an and swore that he would never get married. “I won’t allow one woman to steal the dreams and hopes of my sisters. I have vowed myself and my life to them,” he said.
These are the dreams of simple-minded poor people.
