RIYADH, 2 August 2007 — Fund-raising activities come in all forms, and the Alpha Phi Omega Riyadh Alumni Association had just found one: by running and sweating it out.
Aptly titled “Sweat and Have Fun, Join the Run!” 50 members of the group joined the exercise to help raise money for the Samahang Alpha Phi Omega ng Cainta Learning Center, located at Don Mariano Homes in Cainta, Rizal, east of Manila.
Aporaa President Jun Uyan said the center is also seeking help from other APO alumni associations worldwide to help build the new school.
Mansour Jake L. Reyes, chairman of the Fun Run, said they were targeting “net earnings” of about 90,000 pesos.
The run started at 5:25 a.m. last Friday around the boardwalk of King Fahd Medical City in Dabab street. Declared first placers in each category were: Sarah Day for women, six-year-old Alfred Alingayao for juniors, Noel Macaraig for adults, and Danny Naval for seniors.
In his inspirational speech, Consul General Nestor N. Padalhin commended the group not only for its charity work but also for its plan to help provide benches inside the Philippine Embassy premises.
Aside from Rodel Yap, regional administrative director of APO - Middle East, Metrobank representatives were also present to provide support for the activity.
