JEDDAH, 8 August 2007 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah received a reply cable from President Jalal Talabani of Iraq in response to King Abdullah's cable sent on the occasion of the Asian Cup victory by the Iraqi soccer national team.
In the cable, President Talabani thanked King Abdullah for his sentiments toward the Iraqi people, and reiterated that it was a joint victory of the Iraqi and Saudi teams.
"In Iraq, we recognize the importance of your generous feelings and noble stands toward the Iraqi people. We consider it as a guarantee of victory over terrorism which is a war of genocide against our people," the cable said.
"We always consider you as the sponsor and protector of the brotherly and Islamic relations between our peoples. We hope for your continuous contribution to the help of Iraq", the cable added.
The president wished the king good health and the Kingdom more progress and prosperity.
