VIENNA, 18 August 2007 — Muslim extremists are certain to carry out more terrorist attacks in Europe, and any country that engages itself militarily in Iraq or Afghanistan is a likely target, the son of Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi said yesterday, according to an Austrian news agency.

Radical Islam is making deeper inroads into Europe through young, disaffected Muslims who are receptive to the message of militancy, Seif Al-Islam Qaddafi said in an interview, according to the Austria Press Agency.

“The only solution to contain radicalism is the rapid departure of Western troops from Iraq as well as Afghanistan, and a solution to the Palestinian question,” Qaddafi was quoted as saying.

He said more terrorist attacks were inevitable if European forces do not withdraw, and suggested that even offers of economic or humanitarian assistance could subject Western nations to strikes by extremists, according to the report.

Qaddafi also described the situation in Pakistan as “very dangerous,” and warned of the consequences if Muslim extremists take power in the country, which he noted has nuclear weapons, APA reported.

Qaddafi was in Austria at the invitation of Joerg Haider, former leader of the rightist Freedom Party.
